Does Gmail's January 2027 change affect you?
Gmail ends Send mail as, Gmailify and POP fetching for addresses outside Google. Enter the address you use and answer three questions. You'll see what breaks, what keeps working and what to do before January.
What changes in January 2027
Google announced that Gmail stops supporting addresses it doesn't host. Here's what that means, from Google's own help pages:
| Feature | After January 2027 |
|---|---|
| Send mail as from a non-Google address | Ends |
| Gmailify | Ends |
| Check mail from other accounts (POP) | Ends |
| Forwarding mail into your Gmail | Keeps working |
| Mail already in your Gmail | Stays where it is |
| Google Workspace aliases and other Gmail addresses | Keep working |
Google may already block new Send mail as setups during the transition, so don't delete one that works today. The full story, with every option compared, is in our guide: Gmail Send mail as is ending in January 2027: what to do now.
How this check works
First it looks up the MX records of your address's domain to see who hosts the mail. If it's Google, nothing changes for you. If it's anyone else, your answers decide the result: Send mail as means your replies are affected, and POP fetching or Gmailify means your incoming mail is.

Frequently asked questions
What is Gmail removing in January 2027?
For addresses not hosted by Google, Gmail removes Send mail as, Gmailify and Check mail from other accounts (POP), on the web and in the Gmail apps. Forwarding mail into Gmail keeps working.
Am I affected if my domain is on Google Workspace?
No. Google says the change doesn't affect Google Workspace aliases or other Gmail addresses you own.
How do I see whether I use Send mail as?
In Gmail on a computer, click the gear icon, then See all settings, then Accounts and Import. If your business address is listed under Send mail as, you use it.
Will I lose my old emails?
No. Mail already in your Gmail stays there, including your Sent folder.
